Eliminating grains can cause problems for older Americans. Don’t sacrifice the bread you love – grain foods are an essential part of the journey to a healthier you at any age.

Know your stuff before you cut – bread, rolls and tortillas and ready-to-eat cereals are meaningful contributors of dietary fiber, thiamin, folate, iron, zinc and niacin to the diet of older adults.  So, there is no need to eliminate grains from you diet.

Eliminating grains, especially refined or enriched grains, from the diet may lead to unintended nutrient intake consequences.
